Matched Betting Experiment - Day 17 (Big Day!)

Current profit: $1688.11

As I mentioned yesterday, I have the day off today. And A LOT happened today. Let’s start at the beginning.

I run up to Michigan to make my Michigan bets. After I get home, I make a couple Ohio bets. But I have other plans for today. Although I’ve been very happy with ProfitDuel as my main betting tool, I know there are many more out there and I want to try a couple others.

The first tool I try is called Oddschecker. It offers a 7 day free trial. I did not read the description well because after I signed up, I could not locate any of the tools I need for matched betting. I quickly learn that this tool is for +EV betting. I’ve mentioned that previously. It’s basically a way of betting which statistically will return a profit over time. You may go on long losing streaks, but you have to trust the math and understand that the system puts the odds in your favor. As I mentioned before, I’m not ready to take those kinds of risks. I move on.

The 2nd tool I find is called DarkHorse odds. This tool seems to offer all of the benefits of ProfitDuel along with some additional features. I’m quite intrigued and start to use it to look for bets. It’s pretty straight forward to use and has lots of options. I could see myself using this tool, but I quickly start to see what I’m missing. First glaring issue is it does not have all of the sportsbook for Ohio. That will return less betting opportunities for me. This leads to my 2nd issue, customer support. With ProfitDuel, I simply click the help button and someone is there to assist. With DarkHorse odds, you must use their Discord channel. I sign up and ask a couple questions. After 24 hours, there is no reply to my inquires. I’m not impressed. 3rd strike. There is no profit tracker. With ProfitDuel when you find a bet, you simply click a button and it is saved. I know there are 3rd party apps or sites which can do this. But the convenience of ProfitDuel would be hard to do without. I also noticed when looking for bets, I’m finding a lot of obscure bets offered. Things like betting on a player to score or betting on an odd sport. I’m sure these can be corrected through the extensive selection of filters, but I prefer the simplicity of ProfitDuel. I’ve since learned that making these type of niche bets can be a red flag to the sportsbook indicating that you may be a “sharp” bettor and lead to limits on your account.

Now on to where DarkHorse odds shines. They have a useful blog and extensive guides to help you learn about betting. This information is available from them for no cost. Since they’ve supplied this useful information, I decide I’m going to pay for 1 month to give a little back. They offer a 2 day trial, then only charge $9 for the first month. So I’m not being that generous, but I want to give them a little something. They also have a fantastic odds table. What this means is I can simply look up an event and see the odds for all of the sportsbooks in the state. This can be useful for certain types of promos. I’m going to request that ProfitDuel add this feature.

The next benefit I find from trying DarkHorse is located in their blog. I find there are accounts and credit cards that cater specifically to sports betters. I haven’t talked much about it, but I’ve tried numerous ways to deposit money into the different sportsbooks. When I started, I had no idea what I was doing and tried a credit card. It was flatly denied. I then tried PayPal which worked for me. But there are times where I have too many transactions and PayPal begins to temporarily deny my transactions. I had the exact same experience with Venmo and I’ve tried 2 bank debit cards which get denied as well. This has been a bit frustrating and limited my flexibility. The 2 options I find on the DarkHorse blog seem like the answer to my problem.

The first option is a credit card which can be used for deposits and also give you 1% back in rewards. This sounds amazing because I move around large amounts of money. But this is only for deposits and I’m looking for a complete solution.

The next options is an online checking account with a debit card. I spoke with their customer service and they guaranteed me they will never deny a betting transaction. I’ve been planning to set up a separate account strictly for betting to separate the transactions from my regular account. This will make it much easier to track my profits and I will no longer need to watch my balance because it will be completely separate. On top of the convenience, they offer up to 0.5% back in rewards for your betting deposits. Now this is a sliding scale and it starts at 0.25% and rises based on your deposits. My bankroll is getting pretty large, so I expect this to give me a nice bonus over time. This account is called Edge Boost and it has already been great. I set up my account in just a few minutes. Then they supply you with a digital debit card. I request a deposit from my other account and it arrives in about 5 minutes. I then go to test it out. I make a couple deposits and it’s smooth as butter. I then request a withdrawal from one of my sportsbooks. Now I mentioned before that a withdrawal can take from 30 minutes to a couple days. Today it is instant. I don’t know if it was the sportsbook or the Edge Boost debit card which made it so quick, but I’m already in love. I’ll update this in the future when I make additional withdrawals.

Now I have been planning to also open a Chase account for a while to take advantage of the into offer. I figure since I’m opening new accounts, I’ll take care of that as well. Chase will give you $300 bonus if you set up a checking account and receive a deposit over $500. This will be easy with my betting funds, so I get that set up. Now I know this type of account churning is a separate side hustle. So the $300 bonus will not be added to my winnings. But it will definitely be added to my bank roll.

Final step is I start a blog to document my experiment. I’ve been meaning to do that for a while and I finally have time. Although I’m documenting everything on Reddit, I feel like I’m not getting the exposure I would like. My subreddit doesn’t work properly and I don’t know how to fix it. Every post is immediately removed by Reddit and even after I approve the post, it still doesn’t appear properly. I’m ready to move on from Reddit.

Finally, the bets. With my extra time today I end up going a bit wild. I end up placing 13 bets today. These bets consist of all my normal bets. Free bets, boosted bets, risk free bets and my new find arbitrage bets. I mentioned several days ago that ESPN Bet is offering me 5% back on my bets. I haven’t mentioned it much because I haven’t had many bets with them. But just to update that tally, I’ve earned $31.25 so far in bonus cash with them. There is a similar deal offered with Fanatics. They supply a small percentage back in rewards for each bet you place. I’ve finally gotten up to $25. So I’ve redeemed that for a $25 bonus bet.

Thursday morning. I had 1 loss of $27.14 from a risk free bet, but the other are all profit. I end up making $303.55 today. If you care for the totals, I made: $70, $68.18, -$27.14, $67.14, $6.94, $5, $18.75, $1.50, $1.25, $3.33, $77.31, $1.50, & $9.79. I know some of those returns are pretty low. But as I mentioned before, it only take a couple minutes to place a bet and I feel that I may be more valued by the sportsbooks if I bet a lot. Also, as I mentioned above, you can earn points and rewards based on your bets.

17 day total: $1,991.66
