Matched Betting Experiment - Day 16

Current profit: $1,656.24

I wasn't able to motivate myself this morning. So I had to head to Michigan after work again. I'll try again for the morning trip tomorrow. I have the day off work tomorrow, so it will be easy to get up there early. And I have some other plans too. I'll discuss those tomorrow.

I end up making 6 bets today. 2 risk free bets (spoiler alert, I made a mistake on 1 of these bets), 1 bonus bet (for $100) and 3 bets which I described as EV bets yesterday. I've since learned these are actually arbitrage bets. I've learned that EV bets are single bets placed when the market is in your favor. There is no opposing bet in that situation. So you will either win or lose the bet. But the strategy is that over the long term, you will end up profiting by choosing specific bets. I'm not ready to take that kind of risk. Arbitrage bets are what I described yesterday. Opposing bets that guarantee a profit based on the odds.

Wednesday morning. My risk fee bets give me losses of $25.56 & $26.67. I expect these losses to reward me with 2 $100 bonus bets. Upon closer review, the 1 risk free bet was only for $10. So I lost $26.67 on this bet and only got a $10 bonus bet. I hope to turn that bet into $7-$8, but I messed up and lost on that deal. My bonus bet profits $70 and my arbitrage bets provide small profits of $4.15, $7.75 & $2.20.

I end up making $31.87 today. Not too bad, but I need to be more careful to maximize my returns.

First a quick correction. I forgot to deduct my qualifying bet loss of from yesterday from my total profit. I thought I lost $1, but after settling up the bet in ProfitDuel, I realized I actually lost 50¢. So my current profit is $178.99. Matched Betting Experiment - Day 1

*** TLDR – I’ve decided to experiment with matched betting and I’m going to share my experience on this blog. I originally started sharing my journey on Reddit, but have added it here as well for visibility.  I’ve been watching this sub and looking for a side hustle for quite a while. Matched Betting Experiment - Day 4

Another day, another lesson (or two) learned. Current profit $231.49. So as I stated yesterday, I have $150 in bonus bets to use last night. So I jump on ProfitDuel to find a match. I find a great bet which is going to turn my promo funds into around $111. Now this return is based on the odds which were current when the deal was found. I check the first sportsbook and the odds have changed slightly. This leads me to check the 2nd sportsbook and I see that the odds there have changed drastically. I put the new odds in the calculator and realize it's going to drastically reduce my profit. Lesson learned. Always double check the odds before placing the bet. So I decided to find another bet. After viewing the other options the bets are either for later this week or require a large counter bet for which I don't currently have the bank roll to cover.
